Presidents Address

It was with great honour that I took on the role of President of Castlebar Chamber for this year and I did so due to the fact that the ougoing President, Tom Canavan, and his committee have put good structures in place over the past few years.

Some of the best initiatives which have been undertaken by the Chamber are:
1.      The development of the Visit Castlebar website which is now live,
 
2.      The development of a business supports brochure which is ready to be published,
 
3.      Ongoing works in the progression of a Castlebar Knowledge Park,
 
4.      Lobbying of Town Council on a range of issues including carparking, festivals, signage and heritage related issues,
 
5.      Two successful Heart of Castlebar summer festivals.
 
The Chamber are actively promoting Castlebar under the following headings:
1.      Shopping,
 
2.      Leisure and entertainment
 
3.      Heritage
 
4.      Outdoor pursuits.
 
For my term of office I will be supporting the continued work in these important areas as well as putting forward a few proposals of my own, funding dependant. I would like to:
1.      Produce a quality Castlebar magazine/newsletter with the aim of attracting tourists to the town,
 
2.      Produce a movie clip of Castlebar highlighting the town's and surrounding area's attractions,
 
3.      Support the In Humberts' Footsteps Gathering Event in August,
 
4.      Meet with traders and various government agencies on the issues of rates, parking charges, the effect of below cost selling of alcohol on restaurants/pubs, how to bring more business to the town.
 
In order to continue the good work of the Chamber I urge you, our business collegaues, to join this worthwhile organisation and pledge your support to the continued success of our town. I need the support of the business community if I am to have a mandate to lobby on your behalf.
