The mood of the forum was positive, productive and forward thinking an guests spent the first half an hour networking over tea and coffee. It was a great opportunity for new businesses to meet other key contacts in the chamber.
Caroline Gordan the chambers Vice President, opened the Forum at 6.30 with a very fitting welcome for all.
The President, Tom Canavan addressed the attendees, where he covered the work that the chamber has done in 2011 and the vision for 2012. The Calendar of events was launched and distributed to the chamber members highlighting the opportunities for Castlebar to tap into the big events upcoming through the year ahead. This is the first year the calendar has been launched but the more businesses that come on board the bigger and better the event calendar will become.
The visit Castlebar website was also launched and is hoped to be live by the 1st of May 2012. Would you believe there is just under 3000 fans on the facebook page without the site been live! It highlights that Castlebar is an excellent shopping destination and Visit Castlebar could be used as a tool to drive shopping business into the town from Westport holiday makers as an example. It also gives our bars and restaurants an opportunity to promote their business on line with their own pages on the site and special offers section.
The forum was then opened to the floor.
There was a lot of feedback both positive and negative in regards to want the chamber has done and what the chamber needs to do. There was acknowledged from the floor, on the work done by the town traders association, in regards to the Castlebar Street festival. There was also a lot of compliments to the council with regards to the street scapes and how well the town has come on in the past 5 years. Other issues that were spoken about were Rates and Parking to which the Chamber are open to comments and views from its members. Job creation was another topic up for discussion.
The next Chamber open forum was set for Thursday the 26th of April. The chamber encouraged the floor to bring along two more Businesses to the next Forum, Members and non-members.
